Heat Pump Supply Options

Supply Options Comparison Intelligent Energy Solutions supply heat pumps in a number of ways depending on the clients requirements.  It is important that when comparing prices from alternative suppliers that the comparisons are truly 'like for like'. Substantial differences in cost, virtually without exception, can always be justified by substantial differences in specification of supply.
Heat pumps can be purchased in the following ways:-

Full Heat Pump Installation Service - GOLD

Happy Ecodan Home Owner with Full InstallationFor projects where speed, reliability and accountability are of the essence a full installation service is required.  Most heat pump 'installers' surprisingly are not able to offer a full installation service.  They frequently advise their customers that a 'supply and commission' service is appropriate.  For many projects we disagree.
Our full installation service means that you have one point of contact with no possibility of 'finger pointing' as to where a problem lies.
IES will typically supply everything required to enable the heat pump to operate reliably and efficiently for many years.
A full installation usually takes about 4-5 days to complete.  We will make every effort to minimise the impact on your home, in particular we would normally plan the works to ensure that you are not without hot water overnight.
Once we have completed we will leave the system running and you will be provided with full MCS certificate, warranty and life time technical support.

Our full installation service would normally include the following:-
  • Heat Pump Outdoor Unit
  • Heat Pump Antivibration Feet
  • Heat Pump Rubber Flexi Hoses
  • Heat Pump Immersion Heater Overide Controller
  • Heat Pump Indoor Flow Temperature Controller
  • Heating Flow Temperature Sensor
  • Hot Water Temperature Sensor
  • Heat Pump Compatible Hot Water Cylinder (if applicable)
  • Unvented G3 kit for Cylinder (hot water expansion vessel, pressure reduction valve, hi temperature/pressure safety valves, hi-limit stat)
  • Magnetic Filter
  • Flow Meter
  • Heating Timer/s
  • Heating Thermostat/s
  • Hot Water Timer
  • Heating and Hot Water Zone Valves
  • Primary Circulation pumps (2 off usually required)
  • Heating Expansion Vessel
  • Heating Filling Loop
  • Heating Pressure Gauges
  • Electrical Isolators
  • Armoflex Lagging (external) plus large trunking
  • Tubolit Lagging (internal)
  • Antifreeze inhibitor
  • Removal of old boiler (if appropriate), make good flue hole
  • Drain kit for condensate removal
  • Electrical Installation and misc electrical materials
  • Plumbing Installation and misc plumbing materials
  • System Commissioning

For new build and refurbishment projects where other skilled trades people are already on site you may wish to consider a supply with packaged cylinder and commission service.

Supply with Packaged Cylinder and Commission - SILVER

King Span Cylinder PackageThis type of service is suitable for new build developments and can even be attractive for major refurbishment projects where existing trades people are heavily involved on site.
This package is very comprehensive, it not only includes virtually all the elements required to make the system operate but most of the primary components are already wired and plumbed together with the supplied hot water cylinder.  These components are factory fitted and massively increase the speed of installation while also removing the risk of expensive installation errors.
The only remaining items that are required to be purchased separately are as follows:-
  • Heating Expansion Vessel
  • Heating Filling Loop
  • Heating Pressure Gauges
  • Electrical Isolators
  • Armoflex Lagging (external) plus large trunking
  • Tubolit Lagging (internal)
  • Electrical Installation and misc electrical materials
  • Plumbing Installation and misc plumbing materials
  • Drain kit for condensate removal
Once the installation is complete IES will send an experienced technician to check the work and commission the system.  IES will then support the warranty on the supplied components and provide MCS certification.
For volume projects where the existing trades on site are high experienced in installing advanced heating systems you may wish to consider a basic supply and commission package.

Basic Supply and Commission - BRONZE

For new build projects with trades people who are experienced in the design and installation of advanced heating and hot water systems you may wish to consider a basic supply and commission service.
A basic supply and commission service provides the very basic specialist components required to make the heat pump operate and a final check and commission from an experienced IES engineer.  It is important to understand that this service excludes 'non specialist' components.  The following items would normally be included:-
  • Heat Pump Outdoor Unit
  • Heat Pump Antivibration Feet
  • Heat Pump Rubber Flexi Hoses
  • Heat Pump Immersion Heater Overide Controller
  • Heat Pump Indoor Flow Temperature Controller
  • Heating Flow Temperature Sensor
  • Hot Water Temperature Sensor
  • Heat Pump Compatible Hot Water Cylinder (if applicable)
  • Unvented G3 kit for Cylinder (hot water expansion vessel, pressure reduction valve, hi temperature/pressure safety valves, hi-limit stat)
  • Magnetic Filter
  • Flow Meter
  • System Commissioning (after installation by others)
Items excluded are normally:-
  • Heating Timer/s
  • Heating Thermostat/s
  • Hot Water Timer
  • Heating and Hot Water Zone Valves
  • Primary Circulation pumps (2 off usually required)
  • Heating Expansion Vessel
  • Heating Filling Loop
  • Heating Pressure Gauges
  • Electrical Isolators
  • Armoflex Lagging (external) plus large trunking
  • Tubolit Lagging (internal)
  • Electrical Installation and misc electrical materials
  • Plumbing Installation and misc plumbing materials
  • Antifreeze inhibitor
  • Drain kit for condensate removal
Once the installation is complete IES will send an experienced technician to check the work and commission the system.  IES will then support the warranty on the supplied components and provide MCS certification.

For building contractors experienced with fitting this type of equipment this package can be very cost effective.  Alternatively for many building contractors the increased risks and potential delays outweighs the financial saving.  In these cases you should consider a supply and commission service with a packaged cylinder.

Supply Only Heat Pump

For new build projects it is possible to purchase a heat pump ready to be installed and commissioned by on site plumbers and electricians.  However, to qualify for government incentives and manufacturers warranties it is not only vital that the electricians and plumbers have attended manufacturers training courses but it is also vital that the installation is MCS approved. Many installations fitted by the trades people on site may function poorly and will also miss out on subsequent government incentives.
IES do not offer heat pumps on a supply only basis.

Note.
This guide is provided to give an indication of normal modes of operation within the industry.  Your IES estimate or quotation will be  tailored to your project, please call your dedicated consultant or check your paperwork to ensure what is included and excluded.
The above information assumes a heating distribution system has been fitted ready for the heat pump.
